  It was probably the parish church of Chabanais the twelfth century. She lost the title in 1481 after the construction of St. Peter's Church. A White Penitents it came to his offices to 1614, after Saint Sebastian became a parish church. In 1657, the tower was threatening total ruin, it was not urgent repairs and a bell it was restored in 1779. The church was demolished in 1819 and the sale of materials ended in 1821. This money allowed to make emergency repairs to the bell tower, the upper part was completely rebuilt in 1894, only partly preserved in this church.

  In 1890, the old church became too small and uncomfortable, the priest Bayssat decides to build a new. The architect chosen is called Roy, and the contractor Tabarin. The old church was destroyed in 1893. April 3, 1892, the first stone was blessed by the Vicar General Nanglard. The first mass was celebrated June 9, 1893. The church was consecrated on September 9, 1893 by Bishop Jean-Baptiste Frérot, Bishop of Angouleme, accompanied by his Vicar General Nanglard. Built in the shape of a Latin cross, it consists of a nave, two transepts and apse octagonal. Beautiful stained glass windows, with legends and characters, are the work of the company Lagrange Angoulême. A memorial was erected in front of the church in 1922 by the sculptor Georges Delperier Touraine.
